Southwest University of Political Science & Law (SWUPL) in Chongqing visited by Dr. Dave van Toor

This Fall, dr. Dave van Toor (Wis.Mit. Lehrstuhl Lindemann) visited the Southwest University of Political Science & Law (SWUPL) in Chongqing, which is a partner of Universitat Bielefeld since this year. With around 25.000 students, SWUPL counts as a large university, even for Chinese standards. The campus lies in the north of the municipality Chongqing (around 8 million inhabitants), away from the crowded central districts around the Yangtze River. All faculty, university and sport buildings lie together, combined with student housing: a classic English model.

SWUPL is ranked as one of the best law universities in China, and they are proud that several members, including the president, of the Chinese Supreme Court are SWUPL alumni. Dr. van Toor met with several researchers and professor at SWUPL to talk about shared research interests on criminal law, especially in combination with migration and terrorism. However, at the core of the cooperation is an exchange of students. Several Chinese students are now studying in Bielefeld, while one German student is in Chongqing this semester. If you are interested in possibilities to study in China, you can contact the International Office.
