Prof. Dr. Anne Sanders, M.Jur. was appointed as Professor of the University of Bielefeld in January 2018. She was elected director of the Institute for Family Business Ostwestfalen-Lippe (IFUn) in 2019. In 2018, she received the University’s Karl Peter Grotemeyer award for excellent teaching. Since 2018, she has also chaired the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Faculty of Law.

From 2013 until 2017, she was associate professor (Juniorprofessor) for Civil and Comparative Law at the University of Bonn and deputy director of the Institute for German, European and International Family Law. In 2016 and 2017, she received the University's teaching award. Since 2014, Anne Sanders has worked regularly as an expert for the Council of Europe on projects concerning the quality of judges' work and judicial independence. From 2009 until 2011, she clerked at the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht). In 2017, Anne Sanders' habilitation thesis was accepted at the University of Cologne on the subject of „multiple parenthood“, a work in which she analyses the current legal problems of parenting from the stepchild family to reproductive medicine. She received a doctorate in 2007 from the University of Cologne (on matrimonial property agreements and partnership agreements). She read law at the Humboldt-University of Berlin and the University of Oxford. Anne Sanders was supported through scholarships of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (German Academic Foundation) and as a member of the Young Academy of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Science and the Arts.

In her research, Anne Sanders deals with the law of family businesses, which combines issues of corporate, family and inheritance law.

In the field of justice research, Anne Sanders focuses on the organization and role of judges and courts at both national and international levels. The foundations and standards of the rule of law in Europe, as they are currently being discussed in connection with Turkey and Poland, are currently playing a major role in this research subject.
